I just spoke with William at Headquarters, and he was not only professional and informative but kind. This service fits right in with the warm and cozy atmosphere of the environment as this location. I love the fact that all Florida residents can get a library card (make sure you understand their policy before you go so you know what you need to bring in order to get one!)! I went back for the first time in more than 15 years back in November of 2019 for an event being held in the large meeting space on one of the upper floors - it’s GORGEOUS! Keep up the good work, Alachua County Library Headquarters!

I went to the library only to renew my library card, which must be done every 2 years. I was in the library less than 5 minutes to do this. The process was simple for me: answer one question. They asked me if anything had changed since the last time I renewed the card. I said "no" and I was done!!! I have been a user of the Alachua County Library for more than 10 years and have ALWAYS been favorably impressed. They have computers available for use by cardholders, an EXCELLENT collection of both fiction and non-fiction titles, a good research section with assistants to help, a timely selection of newspapers and periodicals, a large selection of audio books and DVDs and a friendly knowledgable staff. Throughout my 73 years, i have spent a lot of time in libraries and i find this library to be one of the best for all-around service and selection. 5 Stars !!! (It doesn't hurt that the main campus of the University of Florida is located just a few blocks down the street. They must be able to handle the needs of UF students and apparently they do.)

Would be nice if there was an activity for kids every single day around 1030 or 11 AM but they're certainly very nice librarians and a good amount of activities for kids to enjoy in there.

Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. I utilize the inner library loan system frequently and I am glad they have it. They do have a great deal of programs available for the community - which is awesome. It is a great place to do research. However, over the past five months I have either witnessed our been subjected to individuals displaying conduct which is deemed socially unacceptable. (Either physical alterations or threats thereof) While there is a security guard on duty - they cannot be every where at once. Frankly, it reflects very poorly on society in whole that security at a library is needed. Clearly the City needs to address these issues as a community - raising the level of awareness where services are available - wether the need be temporary counciling, financial assistance to long term mental health services that are free. It must be addressed. Ignoring this problematic issue does not resolve it. By patronizing this establishment you are at risk - not just subjecting yourself to aberrant behavior but subjecting children to this conduct is unacceptable by any societal standard. It's shameful.

I love the library. All libraries. So the times on the website did not match. I came back at the appropriate time. Took my 4 year old Baba to introduce her. We had a nice time. She has to learn to speak lower but there was a very sparse amount of people. We picked out our books and next time will sign her up for a card. Thanks ACHL for all you do. 😃🙂

The Alachua Country Library has been closed to the citizens use for months now. Despite the fact that other public venues are open and being effectively used by the community with the appropriate preventive measures, the library refuses to allow the citizens who pay for this service to use it. There is not place where social distance happens more naturally than at the library and yet they continue to prevent citizens from coming inside, sitting and working. Even now they say that the computers are available and yet there are whole rows of computers with signs that say they are NOT available because of social distance. This is ridiculous as it is so clearly an attempt to keep homeless people out rather than some appropriate approach to COVID-19.
